Starting over at 50

Most people slow down at 50. I’m just getting started.

After a 25-year career that’s taken me from corporate law to travel blogging, to entrepreneurship, and now to owning a home services business, I’ve decided to start something new: a YouTube channel. In this very first blog post, I want to share the story behind this new project, why I’m launching it now, and what you can expect from me in this exciting new chapter.

My Story: From Law to Laptop Lifestyle

I started my adult life in the most traditional way possible—I became a lawyer. For years, I worked as a corporate tax attorney with some of the largest law firms in the world, representing some of the biggest companies in the United States.

On paper, I had the kind of success people dream about: long hours, high stakes, and a predictable career path that promised stability and status. But even in the middle of that “success,” I felt a pull toward something else—something less predictable.

That pull became impossible to ignore. Just 30 days before making partner at what was then the largest law firm in the world, I quit. It stunned my colleagues and friends, but I knew I had to walk away.

In my late 30s, my husband Eric and I packed up our lives, traded in fighting the IRS for building something of our own, and launched a blog called With Husband in Tow. That blog evolved into Food and Drink Destinations, where we spent over a decade traveling full-time, writing about food, wine, and culture.

What began as a bold leap of faith became a thriving business built on storytelling. And for the first time in my adult life, I experienced a kind of freedom I’d never known before.

A Life Abroad

For more than 12 years, Eric and I lived abroad, embracing a lifestyle that blended work, travel, and discovery.

Over those years, we visited more than 70 countries. It was the dream lifestyle so many imagine when they think about travel blogging. And for us, it was real.

But freedom has seasons. After 12 years abroad, we made the difficult decision to return to the U.S.

Coming Home

I’ll be honest: coming back wasn’t easy. Reverse culture shock is real. Going from beaches in Spain and street markets in Southeast Asia to franchising a home services business in Colorado felt like whiplash.

To some, it might have even looked like failure. After all, I had said more than once that we’d never move back to the U.S. And yet, here we were.

But here’s what I’ve learned: reinvention doesn’t always look glamorous. Sometimes it looks like making hard choices, like starting fresh, like admitting your story isn’t over yet.

I’ve always been a builder—whether it was building cases as a lawyer, brands as a blogger, or businesses as a franchise owner. I love creating something from scratch. And that’s exactly what this next chapter is about.

Why YouTube? Why Now?

So why start a YouTube channel at 50?

Because I need a creative outlet. Running businesses is fulfilling, but I wanted a space that allowed me to tell my story—not just about home services, and not just about travel, but about life transitions, career pivots, and finding freedom at every stage and every age.

There are stories I want to share that don’t fit neatly into the businesses I run now. Stories about resilience, about starting over, about reinventing yourself even when it feels late in the game.

And I don’t think I’m alone.

Maybe you’re a professional who looks successful on paper but feels a tug toward something more. Maybe you’ve built something, but now you’re wondering what’s next. Or maybe you’re like me, approaching 50 and realizing reinvention doesn’t stop after your 20s or 30s—it’s a lifelong process.

Who This Channel Is For

If you’re an ambitious professional, entrepreneur, or someone simply at a crossroads, this channel is for you.

…then you’re in the right place.

This channel isn’t just about me. It’s about the lessons I’ve learned—and am still learning—that can help you reimagine what your next chapter looks like.

What You’ll Learn

Here’s what you can expect from my YouTube channel and from this site:

Reinvention Doesn’t Have an Expiration Date

The core message of this channel is simple: it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.

Your 20s and 30s aren’t the only decades where change is possible. Your 40s, 50s, and beyond can be just as full of bold moves and new beginnings. I believe that the years between 50 and retirement don’t have to be about slowing down—they can be about ramping up, about creating something meaningful, about thriving in ways you never imagined.

An Invitation to Join Me

If you’re ready to escape the predictable life and step into something more fulfilling, I invite you to join me on this journey.

This blog will give you deeper dives and reflections. But the best way to connect is on my YouTube channel, where each week I’ll share stories, insights, and lessons from my life as a lawyer, traveler, entrepreneur, and now, a creator in my third quarter of life.

The best part of my story is that it’s still being written—and so is yours.

👉 Subscribe to the channel today so you never miss a video. And if you’re standing at your own crossroads, know this: you’re not alone. Reinvention is possible, and I’m here to show you how.

✨ Thanks for being here for the very first post and the very first video. I can’t wait to share more of this journey with you.
